KORYO DIVINE BELL/ GONG

Miniature copy of the famous DIVINE BELL of KING SONGDOK THE GREAT, also called the EMILIE BELL and the PONGDOKSA BELL, from SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA. During the Silla & Koryo Dynasties of ancient KOREA, huge masterfully crafted bells were hung in Buddhist Temples to summon worshippers.

This suspended bell is clasped in the jaws of a protective dragon. It is embellished with dragons encircling the bell to ward off evil! It is embossed with words & pictures to invite wealth. The sacred lotus petal design is scalloped around the rim of the base. It symbolises purity, mercy & long life. The dragon shaped armature with a small swinging chain striker for ringing serves to guard & protect. The sound of this bell lasts more than 30 seconds when rung.

Cloisonne' Angel Figurine Bell

Last of the Cloisonne' Bell Collection. This beautiful Angel with praying hands Bell has a base colour of enamelled maroon.The inside of the bell is fully enamelled in green. There is so much detail to this bell, including the hair & wings.The gold halo also works as a hanger.There are enameled stars and holly with berries throughout the design on the angels' gown. It is accented with 24k gold.

Reindeer Christmas Bell In Chinese enamel Work

A floral satin ribbon is attached to the bell for hanging purpose.The inside of the bell is spray painted with the same green as you see on the bottom edge.

Cloisonne' Glass Floral Bell

Glass bells could also be decorated in a variety of ways, including cutting, engraving, and etching .This traditional Chinese Cloisonne' Bell in Glass is delicately cut near the flowers.The colours used are also unusual. Prior to glass cutting, selectors inspect finished bells. Once defective items were removed, the remaining bells are sent on to markers. Markers would use red lead and oil of turpentine or stencil ink to mark the general outlines of the pattern on the glass for the cutters. Lines and dots were used to indicate exactly where the cutters were to place the designs.

Ornate Lucky Bell

Cloisonne' ornament meticulously enamelled with a decorative floral design in delicate blue/ grey tones and finished with dimensional green Cloisonne' leaves, topped with 24k gold & has twisted loop as handle. The production of a single Cloisonne' piece involves complicated, elaborate, precise workmanship, including base preparation, application of fine copper wire in filigree patterns, enamel filling, multi - colouring , painting techniques , delicate working skills , etching techniques, firing and polishing, then coated with 24k gold, etc.

The beautiful detailed Cloisonne' workmanship is repeated on the inside of the bell also. The gold metal clapper is long in shape.

Blue Sleigh Bell

Enclosed ball shaped bell that contains a loose pellet ( or jinglet, or pea ) that can move freely inside to make sound is called a Crotal. Crotals are commonly called sleigh bells or jingle bells.

This Cloisonne' crotal is enameled with vivid colours , every detail hand decorated with floral design both in the upper and lower hemispheres. A ridge or rim encircles the middle of the bell. This ridge is where the two halves of the bell are joined together. Crotals have holes cast into the upper & lower half. Holes in the upper half are star shape & in the lower half are key hole shaped.These holes are called "sound holes".The crotal will also have some kind of loop, bar of metal, or hole. This feature allows the crotal to be attached to a leather or cloth strap, a rope or chain, or a metal or wood bracket.

Plump Cat Bell

The Cloisonne' process begins with the ornament being crafted from a copper sheet. Copper wire strands are then fused to the object creating an outline for the design.

There are a few envelopes inserted into his bag & he is holding a few envelopes on his right hand.The figure is a copy of 'The Postman' figurine from the Hummel collection.
